Stéphan Van Dyck
Born in Brussels, he obtained his Diplôme Supérieur de Chant at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Bruxelles (class of Ludovic de San), and his degree in Musicology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He went on to study at the Studio Versailles Opéra with René Jacobs and Rachel Yakar, and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he won a first prize in William Christie's class.

As a concert artist, he is a regular guest at numerous international festivals and has already performed in Prague, Warsaw, St Petersburg, Oslo, Montreal, New York, Jerusalem, Praetoria, Tokyo, La Paz, Santa Cruz, etc.
He has performed the title role in ‘Don Quichotte’ (by Boismortier) and ‘La Provencale’ (by Duni) at the Opéra Comique in Paris, as well as the role of Admète in ‘Alceste’ (by Lully) in Nancy, Dijon... The role of Carlo in ‘Lo frate “nnamorato” (by Pergolesi) at Royaumont; the role of Varo in “Arminio” (by Handel) at Montpellier and Nîmes; the role of Azor in “Zémire et Azor” (by Grétry) at Nantes; the role of Mercure in “Persée” (by Lully) at Ambronay; the role of Eumete in ‘Il Ritorno di Ulisse’ (by Monteverdi) in Brussels and Amsterdam; the role of the Pastor in ‘Orfeo’ (by Monteverdi) in Utrecht; the role of Intelletto in the ‘Rappresentatione di Anima et di Corpo’ (by Cavalieri) at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels; the roles of Carlos and Tacmas in ‘Les Indes Galantes’ (by Rameau) in Salamanca. ...
He has performed many times in recital with the pianists Boyan Vodenitcharov and Jean-Pierre Bacq in Lieder by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Fauré, Hahn... (Brussels, Vienna, Utrecht, Namur...). He is also recognised as one of the specialists as the Evangelist in Johann Sebastian Bach's Passions, a role he has performed many times in Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Germany. In December 2006, he gave the premiere in Nantes of a contemporary work, ‘Der Steppenwolf’ (opus 19) for solo tenor, choir and piano by French composer Olivier Penard, conducted by Paul Colléaux. In May 2013, he premiered a cycle of 24 songs for tenor and piano entitled ‘Les Roses’, based on poetry by Rainer Maria Rilke and music by Belgian composer Piet Swerts.
He has taken part in more than seventy-five recordings in a repertoire ranging from the Middle Ages to the classical period (Harmonia mundi, Sony, Naxos, Fnac music, Alpha, Ricercar, Opus 111, Bis, Zig Zag, Musique en Wallonie, Accent...).
His recordings include the complete Airs de Cour by Joseph Chabanceau de la Barre with lutenist Stephen Stubbs (Ricercar), Claudio Monteverdi's Vespers conducted by Masaaki Suzuki in Japan (Bis), ‘Il Canzionere’ in duet with Maria Christina Kiehr conducted by Jean Tubéry (Ricercar), joseph Haydn's “Canzonettas” with Jean-pierre Bacq (Arsis), Giulio Caccini's “Nuove Musiche” with Christina Pluhar (Musica Ficta), ’ Écho de Paris’ with Pierre Pitzl's ensemble “Private Musicke” (Accent)...
In 2008, he founded Musica Favola, an ensemble specialising in 17th and 18th century music. With this ensemble he has given numerous concerts and recorded two CDs: ‘Les Airs de Cour’ by Michel Lambert (Accent 2010), and ‘les petits Motets pour une, deux, trois et quatre voix’ by Henri Du Mont (Musique en Wallonie 2010).
He teaches singing at the Académie de Musique de Nivelles and the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Bruxelles. In 2008, he also founded ‘La Camerata Sprezzatura’, the first international school for baroque singing, in the very heart of Brussels, where he gives interpretation lessons.
The Conservatoires of Toulouse, Oslo, Warsaw, Radovljica, The Hague and the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles have already called on him for various Master Classes.
