Hurdy-gurdy & harp

Born in Krefeld (Germany). After classical studies of piano and cello, he became intensely occupied with various aspects of European folk music and its respective instruments. For several years he was a street musician across Europe, researching the medieval roots of traditional music.

He studied at the Music Academy of Gothenburg in Sweden, where in 1990 he obtained the "University Certificate in Music" for drone music. He studied the hurdy-gurdy (with Valentin Clastrier and Evelyne Girardon) and the French bagpipe (with Jean Blanchard), specialised in early harps and holds a diploma in music education. He leads many masterclasses in early music, has published several articles and written a manual for playing the hurdy-gurdy. Beyond CD, radio and television recordings, his international concert engagements with various early-music ensembles bear witness to his work to date.
