Gwendoline Spies

Gwendoline Spies

Soprano

The Belgian soprano Gwendoline Spies began the piano at the age of 5. A few years later she revealed the first notes of her vocation for singing by joining the children's choir La Sonatine of Arlon. After a solid training at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, she obtained with distinction a diploma in classical singing as well as a diploma in music pedagogy at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.

As a soloist she gives recitals throughout the Greater Region, England, Spain and Switzerland, in collaboration with various orchestras and chamber-music ensembles. She also collaborates with several Belgian chamber choirs. She is currently a member of the Dillens trio (clarinet-voice-piano) and of the vocal ensemble Satin Swingers (a close-harmony vocal trio), with which she explores the hidden windings of her instrument: her voice!

She works with the Opéra de Lille, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Belgian National Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, the Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles, the Ensemble Ictus, and Bozar and Flagey in Brussels for educational projects.

A laureate of the "Godefroid Jeunes 2013", recognised as a "young talent 2011-2012" in the Province of Luxembourg and named a "Coup de cœur" as a soloist at the Royal Juillet Musical (Festival de Wallonie) in July 2014, the soprano currently pursues a musical career oscillating between a repertoire at times classical, at times whimsical, and does not hesitate to exploit the various facets of her voice.
