Catherine Daron

Traverso

After winning a first prize in transverse flute in Michel Lefebvre's class at the Koninklijk Muziekconservatorium of Brussels, Catherine Daron was awarded, by unanimous decision of the jury, the Higher Diploma in traverso under Barthold Kuijken. A founding member of Les Menus-Plaisirs du Roy, she has taken part with this ensemble in various recordings and in a great many productions (Atys travesti, Alceste, Persée, La Fille mal gardée…), and this at the greatest festivals devoted to baroque music. Catherine Daron also plays with other ensembles: Il Cortegiano (with which she recorded a CD of Italian Renaissance music), La Grande Écurie et la Chambre du Roy under Jean-Claude Malgoire, etc.

In order to broaden her practice, mostly oriented towards the official and aristocratic music of the Ancien Régime, Catherine Daron decided to turn to the musette, which offers, at any moment, the pleasure of travelling along the often tenuous border between the popular and the learned. She currently teaches transverse flute and traverso at the academies of Boitsfort and Overijse.
